Planning Your Wedding: Setting The Date

A

Some determining factors that influence the date are the time of year you want to be married, the size and formality of your wedding, the availability of the location you want, and possibly your work schedules.

The final decision of when to get married is the bride and groom's. However, couples often do consult with family members. When the final date has been decided, make sure to let family and close friends know so they can mark it on their calendar to avoid any conflict.

Then review the list of things that need to be done for the wedding and make sure there's enough time to do them.

If you have your heart set on a location that is popular, you may have to reserve it anywhere from six months to a year ahead of time. With an increase in formal weddings you will be surprised how many locations, caterers and photographers are reserved months in advance.

Even if your wedding is small and less formal you should still allow yourself three months, or two at the very least. This would be in the event of a home wedding, a less popular month, or maybe even a weekday wedding.

You have the rest of your life to be married, so take your time and enjoy the pre-wedding parties, the shopping, the planning and the excitement before that special day. Then they will become memories that always give you pleasure.
