This section lists commonly used keyboard shortcuts on GNOME on Ubuntu computers. Alt-PrtSc-S.U.B forces the system to reboot.
GNOME on Ubuntu offers a large number of keyboard shortcuts
in different areas. Some commonly used shortcuts are listed below.
Desktop navigation:
- Activities Overview Toggle - Super (Windows).
- Switch Application - Alt-Tab.
- Cycle Application Windows - Alt-Esc.
- Activities-Applications Toggle - Super-A (Windows-A).
- Hide Application Windows - Super-D (Windows-D).
Text and selectable items:
- Copy and Paste - Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V.
- Cut - Ctrl-X.
- Select ALL - Ctrl-A.
- Undo - Ctrl-Z.
Miscellaneous actions:
- Screenshot of full screen - PrtSc.
Image file saved in ~/Pictures directory.
- Screenshot of a single window - Alt-PrtSc.
Image file saved in ~/Pictures directory.
- Screenshot of an area - Shift-PrtSc.
Image file saved in ~/Pictures directory.
- Start/Stop Screencast - Shift-Ctrl-Alt-R.
Video file saved in ~/Videos directory.
- Force Reboot - Alt-PrtSc-S.U.B.
This is needed when GNOME freezes.
