macOS System Info, Version and Upgrade

This section provides a tutorial on how to view the version of macOS systems, check for available upgrades and perform an upgrade.

If you just got a new macOS computer, the first thing you should do is probably to check its system information, including version number, and to see if there is any upgrades available.

1. Click the "Apple" icon on the top left corner of the screen. Then select "About This Mac".

2. Review the information displayed on the "Overview" tab.

Memory 16 GB 2133 MHz

  Radeon Pro 450 2048 MB
  Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB

3. Click "Software Update..." button to see if there are any upgrade available for macOS any installed software.

4. If you see macOS 10.12.6 is available, click the "UPDATE" button to install the upgrade/update.

5. Restart the computer. And click "Apple > About This Mac", you see the version is changed to 10.12.6.

You can also check system information by opening "Launchpad > Other > Terminal" and running the following commands:

herong$ arch 
i386

herong$ uname -mnprsv
Darwin 16.7.0 Darwin Kernel Version 16.7.0:
   Sun Jun  2 20:26:31 PDT 2019; root:xnu-3789.73.50~1/RELEASE_X86_64
   x86_64 i386
