"regedit.exe" - Finding Registry Keys for FreeCell

This section provides a tutorial example on how to find FreeCell registry keys with the 'regedit' search function.

To learn how to use "regedit.exe", let's use the Microsoft FreeCell game program as an example.

The first exercise is to rind registry keys and values about FreeCell:

1. Start "regedit.exe".

2. Click the menu "Edit > Find...". The Find dialog box shows up.

3. Enter "freecell" and click "Find Next" as shown in this picture:

4. The Registry Editor will spend a few seconds to find the first registry key related to FreeCell, which is located under the HKCU hive:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
   \CurrentVersion\Applets\FreeCell

5. Click the menu "Edit > Find Next". The Registry Editor will find another registry key under the HKU hive:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows
   \CurrentVersion\Applets\FreeCell

This proves that "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" is a copy of "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19", where "S-1-5-19" is my login user ID, as described in previous sections.
