∟JSTL Core Library
∟c:out Action Tag
This section describes the c:out action tag in the JSTL Core library. c:out allows you to generate a dynamic data using an EL (Expression Language) expression in JSP pages.
The <c:out> action tag allows you to generate a dynamic data using an EL (Expression Language) expression
in JSP pages using this syntax:
<c:out value="expression" escapeXml="flag"
default="default_expression"/>
<c:out value="expression" escapeXml="flag">
default_expression
</c:out>
Note that:
- "expression" provided in the "value" attribute specifies the EL expression
to be evaluated, converted to a string and inserted into the HTTP response.
"value" attribute supports EL Composite Expression,
which is a mixture of Literal Expressions and Eval Expressions.
For example, "Welcome ${customer.name}!" is a Composite Expression.
- "flag" provided in the "escapeXml" attribute supports "true" or "false".
"escapeXml" is an optional attribute. The default is escapeXml="true",
which tells JSP container to convert XML special characters to escape sequences.
- "default_expression" provided in the "default" attribute or
in the element content specifies the
EL expression to be used in case the "value" attribute is evaluated to "null".
"default" is an optional attribute. The default is default="".
