∟The ZipArchive Class

This section provides a quick introduction to the ZipArchive class, which provides you creating new ZIP archives, extracting files from existing ZIP archives, and other functionalities.

What Is ZipArchive Class? - ZipArchive class provides you functionalities to create new ZIP archives, and extract files from existing ZIP archives.

Here is a list of some main methods provided by the ZipArchive class:

$zip = $zip = new ZipArchive: Creates an instance of the ZipArchive class as $zip.
$zip->open(): Associates the given ZIP archive to $zip. Option flags can be provided to create new or update/extract existing ZIP archives.
$zip->close(): Closes the associated ZIP archive.
$zip->addFile(): Adds the given file to the associated ZIP archive.
$zip->addFromString(): Adds the given string as a file to the associated ZIP archive.
$zip->addEmptyDir(): Adds the given path name as empty directory to the associated ZIP archive.
$zip->addPattern(): Adds files that match the regular expression pattern from a given directory. The operation is not recursive. The pattern will be matched against the file name only.
$zip->extractTo(): Extract the complete archive or the given files to the specified destination.
$zip->deleteName(): Deletes an entry in the associated archive using its name.
$zip->setPassword: Sets the password for the associated archive.

ZipArchive class is provided from "zip" module, which is included in PHP binary packages for Windows.

On Linux systems, you can install it using the following commands:

# for Ubuntu systems
sudo apt-get install php7.0-zip

# for CentOS systems
sudo dnf install php-pecl-zip
